A welcome from the League of American Orchestras and
Meet The Composer

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to our latest round of Ford Made in America, a groundbreaking initiative that celebrates music, creativity and communities nationwide.

We’re extremely proud to be partnering with 58 small-budget orchestras, a consortium which represents all 50 states. They have combined their resources to bring to life Chasing Light…, a new work by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Joseph Schwantner. Premiering in September of 2008 and continuing through the 2009–2010 concert season, Mr. Schwantner’s work will receive more than 70 performances within an eighteen month period, an accomplishment which is virtually unprecedented outside the Ford Made in America program.

Thanks to the visionary and generous support of title sponsor Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of Ford Motor Company, and government partner the National Endowment for the Arts, Ford Made in America goes beyond the traditional commission. With the composer at the core, it offers orchestras resources that enhance their engagement with communities, deepen their involvement with young people and promote their mastery of the music of our time.

Ford Made in America unveils the rich and varied orchestral life of this country and champions one of America's most accomplished and treasured composers. From Maine to Hawaii and Alaska to Florida, this program will surely leave musicians and audiences richer for having embraced a new work and having played a part in the creative process. We're thrilled to be part of this national collaboration and are so pleased that you're joining us in the celebration!
